AMTK 157 |
Description: |
2.2.2024 Mechums River VA. Because AMTK 157 on the eastbound Cardinal had to wait in the passing siding at Afton for a CSX empty grain train to pass, I was able to get down the mountain and meet it at Mechums River. It was running at 60mph to keep to its advertised. The stack of creosote ties to the left waiting to be hauled away is the remains of the walkway attached to the bridge over Mechums River that was replaced with a metal grate walkway. Signal 192 peeks above the pile of derietis. |

2.2.2024 Afton, VA. AMTK 157 on the eastbound Cardinal running on time through Afton, VA. It was moving very slowly at this point as it was preparing to meet an empty CSX grain train chugging up the Blue Ridge Grade. |

AMTK 157 |
Description: |
2.25.2024 Greenwood, VA. This is the view the operator at Greenwood, VA station would have had looking east through the bay window. Of course the station is no longer in existence, same as for the freight yard and freight house that were located on the opposite side of the tracks. Amazingly, as you can see, most of the communication works remain intact on the telephone poles in this area of the grade. Today, we see the late-running Westbound Cardinal as it makes its way up the Blue Ridge Grade. |
